Island Images Professional Photography Studio, Inc. recently joined forces with Oggi Salon in Melbourne collecting both hair donations and financial contributions to benefit Locks of Love and providing each participant with an "after portrait" of their new look.
This half-day event was held at Oggi Salon in downtown Melbourne on January 21st. Salon owner, Giovanna Troisi, and two of her talented hairstylists, Laura Jayne and Susie Racik, donated their time not to just cut the hair of 18 generous donors, but also transform their looks all to benefit a very worthy cause. Eighteen ponytails were donated, totaling 180.25 inches of hair, as well as monetary contributions of $65.00. The longest single ponytail donated was 12 inches long!
The reasons for giving their hair varied for each person who donated. Each person was delighted with their new look and it was obvious they were happy to be able to help the Locks of Love organization.
Photographer, J. Scott Kelly, along with his wife Karen, of Island Images, coordinated this event after their daughter, Kaila, donated 13 inches of her hair to Locks of Love. According to Scott, "I look for ways to use my photographic talents to help various charitable organizations in the community. After our experience donating to Locks of Love, we thought these events would be the perfect way to do both." Scott donated his time to capture every inch of hair donated and is providing a complementary collection print of each donor's haircut experience, which each participant will receive as a special keepsake of their generosity.
These generous donations should go a long way in helping the not-for-profit organization in providing custom vacuum-fitted hairpieces to those who suffer from permanent hair loss.
