South Florida Karting 1 st Annual South Florida Shootout
The newly formed South Florida Karting Association will hold a Senior Champ race at Martin County Speedway in Hobe Sound on Saturday, January 31, 2009. The event is being held for Senior Champ racers running 5hp flatheads at a minimum weight of 410 pounds and at least 15 years of age. There will be a $10 gate fee and a $40 race entry fee. Gates will open at 10am and practice will begin at 11am. The grand prize winner will be awarded $500.
This event is unsanctioned but will be using FKA/AKRA Engine Tech Rules. Racers will qualify in the 15 lap heat race with the top tier finishers (number of transfers depends on total number of entries) earning a spot in the feature event. The South Florida Shootout will race 25 laps, take a 10 minute pit stop, and complete the remaining 25 laps.
This event is open to racers and spectators alike. Those interested in go-karting are encouraged to come see the racers go around the 1/8 mile track. The regular season of go-kart racing starts Feb 7 th. The regular season will consist of 2 races per month. There are many classes of go-karting, starting with the novice group which starts at 6 years of age up to the Senior Champ class which is for those 15 years of age and older.
