Sometimes even LogOn the Loggerhead needs some good old-fashioned country cooking, so on the recommendation of a co-worker, I decided to give Marsh Landing Restaurant in Fellsmere a try.
The first thing you notice when you walk into the Marsh Landing Restaurant, located at 44 N. Broadway in Fellsmere, is the place has history - literally. Originally built in 1926 as the old Fellsmere Estates Building, the site has been many businesses over the
years and the tastiest has been Marsh Landing.
The current owner, Fran Adams, has restored this historic building to its original luster, complete with wood furnishings, country knickknacks and a jar of Frogleg Franny's Hot Pepper Vinegar on every table with a label that reads "Pour a spoonful on your collards for a good ole Southern kick!"
In addition to the homey surroundings, the Marsh Landing Restaurant has a rather extensive menu, from frog leg appetizers($6.95) to Sawgrass Coconut Shrimp entrees ($15.95), this loggerhead knew this would be a great feast. But deciding would be difficult. Some of the myriad of lunch choices include the fried catfish lunch special ($5.95); frog leg platter ($8.95); and gator platter ($8.95); to favorites like country ham sandwich ($5.95); bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich ($5.95); grouper sandwich ($9.95) or marsh burger ($6.95).
I opted for the bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich (didn't want my frog friends to get nervous, so no froglegs for me on this visit). My iced tea was served in a drinking jar and my meal served on homestyle plates. What a perfect country cooking touch! I made a great choice and there will definitely be a trip in the future to Fellsmere's Marsh Landing Restaurant.
For more information on the restaurant, call them at (772) 571-8622.
