Flying High
Contributed by: Kelly Bruce / YourHub.com   on 7/13/2006

There's something in the air above St. Lucie County.

Look skyward this weekend and you may catch a glimpse of the Red Baron Pizza Squadron aerobatic team, one of the many groups performing in this weekend's Wing 'N Wheels Air, Military and Vehicle Show at the St. Lucie County International Airport.

As part of a small group of media daredevils invited for a behind-the-scenes look at the Wing 'N Wheels event, I had the pleasure of flying with the Red Baron team during one of their aerobatic practice sessions on Thursday, March 23.

I was in one of four red and white Boeing Stearman planes, who took to the skies above Fort Pierce in close formation. Once over Hutchinson Island, we broke formation and performed a variety of loops, barrel rolls and a maneuver known as the clover leaf. I must say, it was one of the most exciting and exhilarating experiences of my life.

While some may dream of running away with the circus, I'm considering getting my pilot's license and joining the aerobatic team!
