The Treasure Coast District of the Gulf Stream Council, Boy Scouts of America announced today that it received a $5,000 donation from the National City-Harbor Foundation. The donation will help fund outreach programs aimed at providing services to at-risk youth in St. Lucie County, especially in the urban areas of Ft. Pierce.
"The donation from National City will enable the Boy Scouts of America to grow and expand our outreach programs to benefit even more children," said Jon Petruska, the Treasure Coast District Executive. "Ultimately, this will allow us to strengthen our mentoring programs as well as develop our character development programs including
Soccer in Scouting and
Take a Knee.
The grant will allow the Boy Scouts of America to recruit leaders, provide uniforms, program materials, and advancement awards to the youth. It will also provide outdoor experiences such as camping, swimming, sailing, hiking, high adventure, first aid training and leadership development.
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to serve others by helping instill values in young people and, in other ways, prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential. With this mission, Scouting has for over 98 years met the needs of young people in all walks of life. Scouting still holds true today to instilling high values, moral and ethical decision-making and strong character development of our youth.
"National City is proud to support the Boy Scouts of America as they provide guidance and help build the character of our youth, the future leaders of our communities," stated Hal Roberts, market president of the Central/Northeast Region.
The donation is part of National City's ongoing efforts to be a contributing member of the community. National City has designated a charitable fund of $2 million to be used and administered exclusively in Central and Northeast Florida.
