Maritime Museum, Local PR Professional Win State Award For Maritime Memoirs Series

With its attendance at the Maritime Memoirs Lecture Series increased 300% and lots of publicity for the lecture series, the Maritime & Yachting Museum of Florida and local public relations professional Adrienne Moore, APR, CPRC are the recipients of an Award of Distinction from the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA).

Between December 2007 and April 2008, the museum hosted five lectures discussing the maritime history of the Treasure Coast.Guest speakers included Tom Evinrude, grandson and son of the founders of Outboard Marine Corp., local artist and boat builder Curt Whiticar, historian and journalist Joe Crankshaw, boating author Tony Wilson and antique motor boat engine historian and author.Peter Hunn. The series was presented at Indian RiverSide Park in Jensen Beach.

Moore volunteered to handle media relations for the lecture series, obtaining newspaper and radio coverage, plus internet listings and email contacts.She submitted articles on each speaker to local media and generated community calendar listings, feature articles, radio interviews, and internet postings.

Moore retired from public radio station WQCS / 88.9 FM last September.She is in the process of opening a local public relations firm.She is currently serving her third term as the FPRA Treasure Coast chapter president and in 2005 - 2006, she served as FPRA State President.She has received numerous Image, Golden Image, Award of Distinction and Judges Awards at the state and local level during her 20 plus years in public relations association.

The Florida Public Relations Association, the oldest public relations state association in the country, coordinates the Golden Image awards program each year.Entrants can receive a Golden Image, an Award of Distinction or a Judges Award.The awards were presented this year at the 70 th anniversary FPRA Annual Conference at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando.

The Maritime & Yachting Museum of Florida is in the process of coordinating a fundraising campaign for a new 30,000 square foot maritime museum at Indian RiverSide Park.The museum will include original outboard engines invented by Ole Evinrude in 1909 and other models as Evinrude's business turned into Outboard Marine Corp.His son, Ralph Evinrude, well known to Martin County residents before his death in 1986, continued to build the company and introduce new engines.He also brought the Ralph Evinrude Test Facility to Stuart in the mid-1950s.

Incorporated in 1988, the museum is located at 3250 So. Kanner Hwy. in Stuart, its home since 2001.The hours of operation are Monday - Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.Admission is FREE.For additional information, contact the museum at (772) 692-1234.
