What a day!
Contributed by: "Capt Joel" Kilmer - Big Dog Comics on 12/5/2006

What a day we had. I guess the old saying "what a difference a year makes" is even true in the comic shop business. It came a surprise as friends, guests, gamers, and new customers showed up all day long, in a constant and steady pace. Over 100 people played a part in making Big Dog Comics 1 year anniversary a fun, and enjoyable success.

The day was open for all to come visit, chat, shop, just get to know us, and have a little something to eat and drink. Publix fixed an appetizing array of smoked turkey and ham sandwiches. Susan made fresh baked choc-o chip cookies and had plenty of chips and goodies to fill the Spiderman plates. And drinks [sodas] were on the house.

We had congratulatory calls from California. Pennsylvania, West Palm and other places.
We received emails from just about everywhere. Friend and Award winning writer Brad Meltzer sent us a congrats and kind words of encouragement. Artist and Pal Chad Hunt gave an e-mail shout out from North Carolina. And comic Guru, friend, all around funky guy Rick Shea gave us accolades from Famous Faces in Melbourne. And of course friend and gamer Derrick said Hi from the chilly mountains of Washington State and was happy to be part of the Dog Pound.

Sometimes it's the little unplanned things that mean alot. Family friend, gamer, fisherman and Boy Scout Tyler Serio came in for a visit and gave us the Golden Dragon Award for our first year of business and growth at the 4804 South US 1 location.

I must give thanks to the friends and businesses that helped promote and support big Dog comics in this one year celebration. Places like Frank and Al's FP, Champs on Oleander, Dales Bar B Q, FP, AJ's pizza's, the Lighthouse Café Sable Palm Plaza [Sears Town to us Fort Piercians] and the good people at Wall Mart, all played a part in our success.

The Hall of Heroes echoed with laughter and fun for most of the day Thanks to Wizards of the Coast Rep Bill Casonelli and later, in the evening rounds, Shaun Hughes kept things rolling. Kudos must be given to Susan and Dawn for keeping the buffet stocked and Chad Freeman for his help, knowledge, and assistance when things got to busy for me to handle. [That was most of the day]

Almost everyone registered for our" True Christmas Gift" a free Christmas giveaway of toys and collectables valued at over $2,000.00. Some family or child is going to get a huge surprise for Christmas. This day proved to be a triple threat as great days go. It was the busiest day ever; it was the most fun and laughs, and a new all time sales record was set, even with the 10 - 50% discounts.

Thanks to everyone who has played a part over the last year in the growth and success of Big Dog Comics. We our proud to be the biggest and most enjoyable Comic, Gaming, and Collectable shop on the Treasure Coast. I couldn't have done it with out you, my customers, family, and friends...Thanks!
