"Capt Joel" Kilmer - Big Dog Comics
on 1/7/2008
Once again Fla. Pokemon and Big Dog Comics brought fun, battle, laughter, and fair play to the treasure coast with the 2007 - 2008 City Pokemon Championships. Players converged on the Days Inn on US1 in Fort Pierce early Sunday morning to register, for free, to try and win one of the coveted city championship medals.
As always people came from all area's of the state including Ocala, Hollywood [Fla], Orlando, Melbourne, West Palm Beach, and even Georgia to test there skills. The categories were masters, seniors, and juniors with plenty of talent in each.
In the masters category 16 year old, Port Saint Lucie resident Omar Izaguirre won first place with a 9 - 0 record taking him to the finals. Forth place winner Steven Peters of Orlando said "he was amazing, he walked though the tournament with ease." He also pointed out some of the sportsman like play when Steve told us "When he [Omar] played he helped others with things they missed."
Another local T J Jones of Stuart took third place in the senior's category. He has been playing in tournaments for a little over a year. He was awarded 4 packs of the newest Pokemon cards for his prize.
Little Abby Coville of Orlando finished in the top four for the first time with a forth place win in the junior category. Not bad for a little six year old who has only been playing the game and having fun for about a year. Her win was accented by her finding a Rare Honchkrow Level X card in one of the four packs she received as prizes. Her face brimmed with excitement at the discovery of her treasure.
Abby's older sister, 10 year old Samatha Coville has also been playing a little over a year and was in the top four in the junior's category too. Even though she has taken first place at three other tournaments in Florida over the past year, her smiling face showed her excitement at taking first place in the Fort Pierce Juniors City Championships. First place in their categories won, a notebook, Folder, pencils, [all Pokemon themed] and half a box of Pokemon cards to enjoy or share with friends, and of course the City Championship Medal to wear with pride.
Once again Big Dog Comics would like to Thank Florida Pokemon - Heidi Craig, and all who attended for starting 2008 with a bang. More tournaments are being planned for the summer and we invite everyone to come and bring a friend for a day of enjoyment.
