"Capt Joel" Kilmer - Big Dog Comics
on 5/5/2008
Once again comic fans, collectors, and kids made Free Comic Book Day 2008 a day to remember. Big Dog Comics new this year was off to a great start when dozens of fans started waiting outside, an hour before doors opened.
The doors opened at Noon and kids, collectors, and the curious rushed the table that housed hundreds of comics and dozens of types of Free Comic Book Day comics for them to pick from. FCBD was designed to bring new readers to there local comic shop in the hopes of promoting reading and fun to people of all ages. FCBD is also a way to say Thanks to the people who have supported Big Dog Comics for over 24 years in Saint Lucie County. Once again it was a huge success.
Although roomy Big Dog Comics 2000 square foot store often is busy on the weekends, this one was like no other. Each of the last few years has doubled exponentially, yet this years turn out was about 5 times better than last year. The store was packed with the curious and the patient for the first 3 hours. Free Games were also played upstairs in the 400 square foot Hall of Heroes for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Thanks to Markes for keeping all immersed in fun.
Friend and customer Senecca manned the FCBD table for the first part of the day to make sure everyone could choose a comic right for there style of reading. Susan Kilmer brought her brownies and cookies later in the day for any and all to enjoy, after giving her time and help to the Learn to Read, Tee to Read golf fund raiser. An event also supported and sponsored by Big Dog Comics.
Capt Joel would like to also thank the Regal Coast Theaters and the Rave Saint Lucie West Theaters in there support of Free Comic Book Day and there continued support of reading and education of the local youth.
With all the sales and fun items, few people left empty handed. Attendance records were shattered with out question and the day ended with the best record sales ever. Capt Joel would like to thank all who helped make FCBD 2008 the biggest day off the year. "It would be foolish of me to think I did this alone. My Thanks to the countless people who have kept comics, reading, and education fun on the Treasure Coast" Capt. Joel proudly announced.
Remember...buy to read, read to enjoy, the rest is gravy.
