A Florida Night
Contributed by: Frank DeSena on 3/20/2007

It expresses my feelings about what is happening regarding the destruction of so much of our natural envirnment.
A Florida Night
The scent of orange blossoms and honneysuckle
Tonight perfume the air.
The moon,a perfect silver medallion,
Sits atop the navy silhouette of the tall pines
That define our tiny community.

The turtle doves coo romantically
In their arboreal nests, settling in for the night.
This perfect confluence of sight, sound and smell
Inebriates the soul and quickens the senses.

Tomorrow the bulldozers will come
And rip the pines and orange trees
From the earth-an inglorious end
To all the sweetness
They have given us for so long.

In their place will stand rows of concrete boxes...
So tedious in their sameness-
A song of praise to a gluttonous progress.
