Educator elected president of SLC Education Foundation

Elizabeth Heard Mallonee, career St. Lucie County teacher, has been elected as the 2008-09 president of the St. Lucie County Education Foundation Board. The Education Foundation promotes, encourages, and recognizes excellence in public education through various programs including classroom grants and student scholarships.

Mallonee and her family have lived in St. Lucie County for 31 years. She taught high school English at Fort Pierce Central for three years and at Lincoln Park Academy for fifteen. At LPA, Mallonee was the original coordinator for the area's first International Baccalaureate program. Currently, Mallonee is an adjunct facilitator in Adult Education at Indian River State College.

"The St. Lucie County Education Foundation is a major priority for me because it is dedicated to providing valuable resources for students and educators within the public school system. Public education is the foundation for all things good in our democracy: community, state, and country," she said.

Having taught thousands of students and having worked with hundreds of educators, Mallonee brings useful experience to share with the diverse Foundation Board.
