IRSC PRESENTS INTERIOR DESIGN IN A CHANGING ECOMONY
Green design is the new buzzword in housing, but what is it? The public is invited to find out how "going green" can create a healthy interior at a free event presented by the Interior Design Department of Indian River State College. "Interior Design Solutions in a Changing Economy" will examine green design and a variety of other timely topics on Wednesday, August 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kight Center for Emerging Technologies at the IRSC Main Campus off Virginia Avenue and 35 th Street in Fort Pierce.
The first session of the evening at 6:15 p.m. will explore the concept of "aging in place," or staying in your home as long as possible as you mature. IRSC Interior Design Department Chair, Dr. Nancy Bredemeyer, a Florida licensed interior designer and Certified Aging in Place specialist, will present interior design advice for the aging client, with special emphasis on safety and comfort in kitchen and bath design.
The second session from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. will address green design and how to use environmentally sound concepts in your home. The session will feature a student interior design project using green design in cutting edge ways.
"Set the Mood With Color" will be presented from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. with professional interior designer Patty Downing, ASID, examining the use of color to create an atmosphere within living spaces. Students in the IRSC Interior Design program will demonstrate the artistry of color use in the Kight Center Atrium.
If you are facing the challenge of selling your house, the final session beginning at 7:45 p.m. will provide ideas on how to increase the perceived value of your home. Focusing on "Your Home as a Stage," Jackie Markland, a professional decorator and stager, will also present ideas to help you enjoy living in your home more, even if you are not selling.
IRSC interior design students will showcase their projects, and information will be provided about the College's Associate in Science degree program in Interior Design Technology. For more information, call 1-866-866-4722.
