IRCC MATH CLUB EARNS FIRST PLACE IN FLORIDA
Students in the IRCC Math Club took home first place honors in the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) competition. The IRCC Math Club earned first-place status for the third year in a row and placed second for the entire Southeast Region. The team was only one point away from first place for the entire eight-state region.
The competition tests student knowledge of Math subjects and ability to solve problems in algebra, geometry, probability, statistics, pre-calculus, trigonometry, combinations, logic, and number theory.
The winning students are:
Cameron Berry, of Port St. Lucie, 3rd place in Florida (and entire southeast region), with 16.5 points; Indra Shottland, of Sebastian, 4th place in Florida (and entire southeast region), with 16 points;
Paula Cohen, of Port St. Lucie, 6th place in Florida, with 13.5 points; Leah Millerof Port St. Lucie, 7th place in Florida, with 13 points; and Tara Defranza,
of Port St. Lucie, with 10 points.
In addition, the IRCC Math Team solved 50 challenging problems to capture first place at the statewide Math Olympics at the University of North Florida in April.
