Contributed by: Jennifer Trefelner on 5/21/2007

Congratulations also to Danny Irizarry and Sara Matulonis who were chosen to represent John Carroll High School at the South Florida Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar held Thursday, May 10 through Sunday May 13 at Palm Beach Atlantic College. Eighty-five 10 th grade students from across south Florida served as Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Ambassadors. The mission of HOBY is to provide lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential and make a positive difference within our global society through understanding and action based on effective and compassionate leadership. The HOBY program strives to follow the HOBY motto of teaching students, "how to think, not what to think."

During the weekend Danny and Sara had an outstanding time while they attended panels on leadership and took part in team building, volunteer, and leadership activities. On Saturday Danny and Sara volunteered at nursing homes, helping the Glamour Gals Foundation, which is dedicated to creating compassionate teen leaders who bridge the generational gap between teens and their elders and brighten the days of nursing home residents. Danny and Sara made lasting bonds with other HOBY participants based on shared values, goals, and experiences and plan to be active in the HOBY alumni club.
