Contributed by: Joshua Spafford on 9/14/2009

Joshua Spafford, was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and left at the age of 12, traveled the world and became an acclaimed actor of stage and screen from Southeast Asia to London, to New York City. The New York Times says of his talent that he is "unseen since the death of Raul Julia" Pulitzer Prize Winner for Poetry says Mr. Spafford's: "presence is propelled by an intense and sensitive passion". Now Mr. Spafford has now come home to give something back.

"Little towns are so often neglected in cultural training and are so rich in talent, I only feel it's fair to give back some to the state that first gave me the acting bug. I saw Richard Burton perform in Camelot here in Florida when I was little boy and I never looked back until now," Mr. Spafford says.

Mr. Spafford is going to be offering a one week acting workshop in Stuart, Florida for anyone interested in learning the craft of acting, ages 14 and up. The class will meet for two hours six days a week and culminate in a photo shoot where each student will learn how to take a headshot, which they will keep to start building their portfolio. He will also be offering some free vacancies to worthy local talent.

Students will learn how to audition, how to create characters, how to act for film vs. theater, how to interpret scripts, how to understand the industry, how to take an effective headshot, and how to determine what unique presence they have to bring and how to hone and polish their image.

Mr. Spafford trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the alma mater of such luminaries as Daniel Day Lewis, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and Ralph Fiennes. He went on to perform in numerous commercials and soap operas, several films, and nearly a hundred stage plays including the acclaimed musical, Les Miserables.

The workshop will be held from September 26-October 10 2009.
