SLC LIBRARIES, McDONALD’S KICK OFF READING PROGRAM
Contributed by: Erick Gill, SLC Media Relations on 8/29/2008

FORT PIERCE - St. Lucie County Libraries and McDonald's have found a way to encourage children to discover all their libraries have to offer. Reading is its own reward but during National Library Card Sign-up Month in September, there's an extra incentive for young readers - the McDonald's Reading Challenge.

Ronald McDonald will visit the Morningside Branch Library on Friday, Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m., presenting a program on bugs. The event is free and open to the public.

McDonald's launched the Reading Challenge program to encourage children to visit their libraries and obtain a library card throughout the month of September. During the month, children who sign up for a library card or show a valid library card receive coupons for free McDonald's food, while supplies last. Each St. Lucie County Library will be participating in the reading challenge. Tying Ronald McDonald into reading makes reading fun for children.

For more information call Dot Blair at (772) 462-2199 or call the Morningside library staff at (772) 337-5632. The Morningside Branch of the St. Lucie County Library System is located at 2410 Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie.
