Celebrate Life!
Hundreds of people flock to downtown Fort Pierce on the first Friday of the month for Friday Fest.
Sunset Magic, a newly formed nonprofit organization, wants that to happen every Friday.
Sunset Magic, which will begin
Oct. 16, and will be held every Friday, other than the first Friday of the month, at the Fort Pierce Marina. 'Reel Ting' a Caribbean and Dance band
out of West Palm beach that opened recently at Kravis Center for the Dave Matthews band, will be the feature band in Oct.
Wander through the Fort Pierce City Marina, sip a tropical drink and snack on conch fritters and other delights while hot Caribbean sounds fill the air. Stroll along the seawall and be entertained by mimes, clowns, stilt walkers and jugglers.
Not only will the event provide entertainment and food, it will also promote downtown and benefit organizations that help youth, said Debbi Denning, events coordinator for Sunset Fest.
The first three weeks of the event will feature the Avenue D Boy's and Girl's choirs, she said.
Proceeds from the event, such as vendor booths and sponsorships, will be used to support the choirs, and in the future, other youth organizations, she said.
Sunset Magic also will encourage youth to sing and perform as street performers at future events. There will be impromptu competitions for youths in the performing arts. Those who participate will be judged by a panel from the Sunrise Theatre and winners will have the opportunity to perform at the Black Box Theatre, a new performing venue at the Sunrise.
"We want to encourage youth who are talented to make the right decision in youth," she said. "There is another way to go where they can actually use their talents for good."
The event also will have food booths, a tiki bar will be open serving food, and there will be a
game tent with chess and checkers, as well as bounce houses.
Unique to the festival is a
business networking area, where business people can meet, exchange cards and highlight their businesses. As well as the opportunity to hop on to an educational sunset cruise on the Indian River Lagoon.
Ms. Denning said she hopes the event will draw families from not only Fort Pierce, but also Port St. Lucie. People will be able to see what downtown Fort Pierce has to offer, she said.
