Since the contribution of the online YourHub.com article, "Sighting at theatre in downtown fort pierce" posted August 18, 2009 and "Is there a haunting at the sunrise?" from the August 26th print edition of the
yourhub sectionof the Ft. Pierce newspaper, it must be noted that there has been a change in the status of the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce. The haunting of the theatre came under investigation when Sunrise Theatre officials were contacted by the Florida Ghost Team, an organization that promotes paranormal research. Jonathan Mattise, Correspondent writer for the St. Lucie News Tribune, reported on the investigation of the Sunrise Theatre by the Team with his article, "What's haunting Sunrise Theatre?" printed on the front page of the September 29 th St. Lucie News Tribune. Then the saga continued with Mattise's reporting and the article, "Rookie ghost hunt some experience" that can be found at
http://www.tcpalm.com/ . Finally, in section B of the October 12 th Tribune, suspicions were confirmed with Mattise's headline, "Ghost hunters: Sunrise is haunted." It has now been confirmed by the Florida Ghost Team, a presence of paranormal activity that includes 'orbs' of light, unexplained noises, and strange feelings. In only a month and a half, the Sunrise Theatre has gone from zero reports of paranormal activity to having confirmed reports of being haunted.
It has been said that all theaters are haunted and without a doubt the Sunrise Theatre, in the center of downtown Fort Pierce, has all the props it needs to fall under the spooky theatre category. There have been confirmed reports of hauntingsand/or strange events related to the historic Sunrise theatre. There are also many frightening similarities Between the Sunrise Theatre and the Tampa Theatre. Both theatres opened around the same time with the Sunrise Theatre opening in 1923, three years earlier than Tampa. The Sunrise Theatre on the East coast and Tampa on the west, both conceal the typical curious under, over and back stage mazes while seating up to 1,200 guests. Both are on the National Register of Historic Places and were saved by efforts of the counties they are located in, after long mysterious closures. After remodeling and renovation the theatres bravely continue to offer their communities talented performances, unique volunteer opportunities, and summer camps.
