Arthur Miller’s historic "The American Clock"
Contributed by: Jennifer Patty Theatre Director on 10/22/2009

From the great American playwright Arthur Miller ( Death of a Salesman; The Crucible; All My Sons) comes a deeply affecting "vaudeville" set in the wake of the 1929 U.S. Stock Market Crash. Underscored with popular songs from the 20's & 30's, Miller's historic play celebrates the indomitable strength of the American people.

The Saint Edward's Theatre Department proudly presents The American Clock; A Vaudeville by Arthur Miller; based in part on Studs Terkel's Hard Times for three performances: Friday, November 6 th at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 7 th at 2 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. at the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts located at 1895 Saint Edward's Drive and South A1A in Vero Beach. Box office opens a half-hour before each performance. Tickets are $10 for adults. Discounted tickets are available at $5 for seniors and students. Subtitled "a mural for the theatre," the play employs a series of vignettes and short scenes, with the actors portraying some fifty-two characters, to capture the sense and substance of America in the throes of the Great Depression. Moving deftly from scene to scene, some funny, some movingly poignant and using period song & dance, the play brings to life a tortured time in American history and praises the courage of the people who survived and prevailed in the face of unaccustomed adversity. Produced by Special Arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. .
