This year National Garden Week was honored
June 1st-7
th throughout the USA . It was a time to share the joys of gardening with our communities.
To celebrate the week, the Garden Club of Ft. Pierce assembled container gardens to deliver to 5 Habitat for Humanity families in the Ft. Pierce area.
Club members selected suitable containers, filled them with soil and a little love, making them ready for the colorful flowers.
Next came the fun of adding the vibrant plants. As part of a
National Garden Club project, our beautiful
Coleus, Begonia, and Pentas
were generously given to our club (and some 220 clubs through out the nation) by Ann Altman of "PerfectlySimpleGiving"
. Thanks Ann!
With the help of our local Habitat for Humanity staff members, 5 families were selected to receive these mini gardens. Our planting team was happy to spend time with Habitat's Administrative Assistant Sharon Ann Ladrak, who answered our many questions on how Habitat works. Later, members presented the container gardens to each home, providing an opportunity to learn more about the individual families in our community.
The Garden Club of Ft. Pierce hopes you, dear reader, will enjoy your garden, not just for a week, but all summer long. As our theme for the year suggests...spread garden beauty everywhere!
