Our romantic storey happened while we were in Greece. I had accompanied my husband, who was sent there by his employer to work in Athens for four months.
One weekend, we decided to take a trip up north to Thessalonica. Realizing it was the romantic season of the year, we looked for a nice place to eat. Not knowing the area or the language, we settled for the restaurant at the hotel.
However, when we got to the entrance the waiter informed us that a wedding was scheduled, therefore the dining room was closed. Perhap he recognized the disappointment on our faces, I don't know, but as we were leaving, he called to us saying "follow me".
He took us to a little table in a private corner where it was just the two of us. Suddenly, two waiters appeared with a white linen tablecloth. They set the table with flowers, candleabra, fine china and proceeded to pour us a glass of wine. We thought we were dreaming! We were given no menu but were told we would
be having Chateaubriand for two. As we were eating, we could hear the orchestra at the Greek wedding. This was the cream on top! They were playing all the American music we used to dance to when we were dating. We were overwhelmed by it all.
Never could we have planned such a romantic evening. It happened twenty-five years ago and we will never forget it. It was one of those special gifts from above.
