St. Lucie County Fishing Hot Spots
• ROUND ISLAND:
POINTER: Put in at Round Island Park on A1A at Indian River-St. Lucie county line.
WHERE IS IT? On county line.
• LITTLE JIM BRIDGE:
POINTER: Live and dead baits work best here.
WHERE IS IT? The easternmost of the two bridges that connect Fort Pierce to North Hutchinson Island.
• TURNING BASIN:
POINTER: Although a good, long cast with a heavy jig can technically reach it from one narrow land spot, it's best fished by boat.
WHERE IS IT? Adjacent to South Bridge in Fort Pierce on its north side.
• FORT PIERCE INLET:
POINTER: Observe what the jetty anglers are tossing, and toss the same. If they're throwing 2-ounce chartreuse flair hawks, you better have one.
WHERE IS IT? Follow A1A east onto South Beach until you reach a right hand turn. Go straight instead.
• BEAR POINT:
POINTER: Wading early morning light with live shrimp or live mullet is a cinch, but fly fishermen have good luck here as well.
WHERE IS IT? A1A south of Fort Pierce on right hand side of road.
• BIG MUD CREEK:
POINTER: Fishable pretty much only by boat, although there is some access by land.
WHERE IS IT? On north side of St. Lucie II Nuclear Power Plant, A1A.
