TREASURE COAST HOSPICE VOLUNTEER AWARDED THE
"OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR" AWARD BY COSA
When kindness, generosity, and gentleness were dished out Clara Abrahamson must have received extra portions. Those are just a few of the traits that describe Clara, a patient visitor volunteer with Treasure Coast Hospice (TCH) since 2003. Over the past year, she has contributed over 253 volunteer hours to TCH. Dr. Louis Benson, President & CEO commented, "We are so pleased to have Clara as a volunteer! She is a treasure not just for us, but for the patients and families whose lives she touches every day with her kindness, caring and generosity. We congratulate Clara on her award and thank COSA for recognizing her as the 'Outstanding Volunteer of the Year'."
Each week, Clara visits 8-10 Hospice patients who reside in area nursing homes in Saint Lucie County. She offers them a kind word, a sweet smile, and a hand to hold. If they are sleeping, she just leaves a little note to let them know she's been there. Each Tuesday morning, Clara can be found at the new Saint Lucie Hospice House visiting and offering comfort to patients and their families.
Suzi James, TCH Volunteer Coordinator remarked, "Treasure Coast Hospice is very fortunate to have Clara. Her commitment to volunteer helps brighten the day of a Hospice patient and adds life to their days and in some cases adds days to their lives."
