Army of Hope Picnic
Contributed by: Elizabeth Brousseau on 5/7/2008

The Florida State Elks Association hosted a statewide picnic on May 3, 2008 which was held at seven separate locations simultaneously. The picnic was a venue to raise monies to support families of Florida servicemen and women who are deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, to help service people who lost a limb(s) from the conflict and to offer other assistance to returning service personnel adjust back into the mainstream of life. All monies collected will be distributed within the State of Florida.

The picnic for this area was held at the Sebastian Elks lodge in Sebastian Florida. We had 227 people in attendance and raised $10,000 for this worthy cause. The highlights of the event were the presentation of a Special Citation to Retired Army Sgt Russell Marek who lost his left leg, arm and ear from an Improvised Explosive Device while serving in Iraq and the commemoration of 200 fallen Florida heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
