FORT PIERCE - Starting soon, the St. Lucie County Veteran Services Department will have a new set of wheels to transport veterans to the VA hospital in West Palm Beach.
On Tuesday, The United Veterans of St. Lucie County will present the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners with a donation of $26,468, which will be used to purchase a new multi-passenger van to add to the Veterans van transportation fleet. The donation is a result of past proceeds from the annual United Veterans Golf Classic, as well as generous donations from civic organizations, veterans groups and individuals.
"It's not everyday that you get close to a $30,000 donation, so I would like to invite everyone to attend the county commission meeting on the 13 th and join us as we recognize and offer our heartfelt appreciation to the United Veterans of St. Lucie County on this extraordinary contribution," said Paul Hiott, Veteran Services director.
Since 1989, Veteran Services and the United Veterans of St. Lucie County have worked together to provide the vans and drivers necessary to take care of veterans in need, including transporting as many as 30 veterans a day from St. Lucie County to the VA Hospital in West Palm Beach.
