Friends gather to say Goodby to an Airborne Ranger
Contributed by: henry clayton on 5/9/2007

As I stud on the hill side at Riverview Memorial Park in Ft. Pierce, FL. and watched the Family of Donald G. Barlowe gather to say a final good-by, I could see the loss on the faces of his family. However on his wife's (Jean) face a true sense of pride even during a time of a great lost to her. As she listen to minster deliver his message and when his friends spoke so highly of him. I watched as she clutched the Flag presented to her from the Military Honor Guard. The thing that made my day was when the Bag piper was playing Amazing Grace I read that he served his country during WWII as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division and jumped in to Normandy on D-Day,as well as in Holland and through the Battle of the Bulge resulting in him receiving Four Purple Hearts,Three Bronze Stars Several commendations and a battle field Commission. He was a good Husband, father, Grandfather Legionnaire and many other things . I read the poem by Judy Dimbleby called Smile in Sorrow But the most important think for Mrs. Barlowe is that Don past away PEACEFULLY at home. God Bless the entire Barlowe Family because Don was there when we needed him the most.
