Special Forces Takes Home Top Award
Contributed by: Mika Roberts on 3/17/2008

It's no secret that co-owners Barry Goss and Michael Roberts of Special Forces Restoration and Construction have a different approach to business. Their company motto says it best, 'The Construction Strike Force'.

Back from a recent adventure deep in the heart of Central Florida, Michael Roberts and a small platoon of WWII re-enactors competed in Florida's largest military vehicle show and swap meet where they took home top honors. One of their most- prized vehicles, a fully restored and operational WWII M8 Greyhound (a wheeled tank) earned the high praise in the restored military vehicles category. And the competition was the toughest it's ever been, with over 150 other vehicles competing from all over the state. The M8 had the opportunity to impress the judges in two ways, first by its quality of restoration, complete with all its period authentic combat gear and also by performing in a battle re-enactment complete with sound and blast effects.

Often giving back to the community by either sponsoring or participating in community events especially those events that serve or honor Veterans, Special Forces is busy planning for the Memorial Day tribute here on the Treasure Coast. Taking on a larger role than in years past, Special Forces is leading the charge in helping Victory Forge Military Academy build and fundraise for this tremendous tribute to America's fallen service men and women.

"In order to build the 2200 plus crosses and stars for the memorial, we will need over 7,700 feet of 1x4 lumber, approximately over 4,200 nails, and over 30 gallons of paint all totaling over $8000," says Michael Roberts. He goes on to add, "it's a big project, it's an important project and we are proud to be a part of it and hope that others will decide to join in and help the effort." Support has begun to come in with the contributions from several veteran groups and companies like CSM Engineering in Stuart.

Special Forces is planning a community work day the first weekend in May to rally community support for the Memorial Day Tribute. Donations of lumber, paint, building supplies or financial contributions can be coordinated through Michael Roberts at 772-215-3470 or through Col. Weierman, Victory Forge Military Academy at 772-879-7181.
