Commander Ed Mims of American Legion Post 181 located at 4585 36th Ave Gifford, Florida has issued a plea to all veterans in the Indian River County area to help him keep his post afloat and to increase his membership. He has a planned membership drive for Aug. 16, 2008 from 10am to 4pm at the post. There will be a Flag raising ceremony, the 12th District staff will do the installation of his new officers and a FREE Fish Fry. He is inviting all veterans out to help him with this membership drive. Commander Mims believes it will be beneficial for the public to stop by and see the things that the American Legion is doing and can do to help the Youth, the Elderly as well as explain Veteran's benefits. If you are interested please bring your DD214 and if you do not have one stop by and we can help you get one. If you are not receiving your veteran's benefits we will try to help you get them. He wants to restart his Auxilliary unit and to Start a Sons of the American Legion Squadron. As a final reminder we are losing our WWII Veterans every day, Please stop by and let us help make sure that their military papers are in order.
