Poppies wither in St. Lucie
Contributed by: Lowell Sasser on 9/26/2009

Poppies still grow red and lush, in the West Flanders Fields of Belgium. In 1922 the Veterans of Foreign Wars decided that these poppies, covering the graves of fallen soldiers, would represent our dead and wounded.
The VFW registered the name Buddy Poppy and assigned it's assembly to handicapped and needy veterans. 1922 saw the Buddy Poppy distributed nationally.
The VFW is an elite group who have served overseas in combat or eminent danger theaters. We band together to honor the dead by serving the living.
From 1922 to this day contributions for the Buddy Poppy are a major factor in getting public funding for VFW projects. The great citizens of our country have been generous with funds and lavish with praise to honor veterans.

Currently two of our primary providers of venue are denying access to solicit. Of five adjoining counties only stores in St. Lucie are stopping Buddy Poppy solicitations. Can you suggest a solution to the VFW of this county in gaining venues of high traffic, where people have pocket change?
