On December 7, 2007, a busload of Red Hatters from the Treasure Coast took off for Chalet Suzanne and the Pinewood Estates Mansion in Lake Wales. Chapters attending were: Frivilous Flirts, Classy Red Foxes, Hurricane Hatters, Lake Charles Classy Redkettes, Les Femmes en Rouge, Lucie Goosies, Pampered Pack of Peacocks, Red Hat Chicks, Scarlet Divas and Treasure Coast Ladies with Hattitude.
Eileen Barrett, Queen of the Lucie Goosies, hosted this trip.
Upon arriving in Lake Wales, we first got a tour of the soup cannery at Chalet Suzanne. Three Red Hatters (with the Best Hats) got free soup! Each of us were allowed to buy soup to bring back home.
The Founding Queen of the Lake Charles Classy Redkettes had moved to Lake Wales and was able to meet up with us and spend time with some of her old chapter members. Her name was Sandy Berryhill.
Between the cannery and the dining room, we were able to view some of the rooms there at the inn. Several ladies managed to find the bar while they were waiting for the dining room to seat us.
For lunch, we gathered in a room at Chalet Suzanne overlooking a lake. We started off with Romaine soup. Then we had a choice of Tuna Salad, Chicken Salad or Ham on a puff Pastry, with fruit. This was followed by dessert. The food was just wonderful, as well as the atmosphere and service.
After lunch, the bus loaded up and took off for the Bok Towers and the Pinewood Estates Mansion. The mansion was Mediterranean style, and they allowed 10 of us in at a time. It took about an hour to go through the entire
20-room mansion. Each room was decorated for the holidays, and at the end of the tour, each person voted on the room they liked best.
There are two additional bus trips being planned for next year - a bus trip to Mount Dora around the 1st of October, and another trip to Chalet and Pinewood Estates Mansion around the 1st of December 2008.
