On Friday,January 25, 2008, the Pizazzy Pineapples hosted a visit to Adams Ranch in Fort Pierce. There were approximately 35 Red Hatters in attendance from the Lucie Goosies, Dazzling Dames in Red and the Pizazzy Pineapples Red Hat Chapters. Those attending wore their prettiest hats and their rattiest shoes and pants.
Our tour started at 10am with first being shown some slides that have been taken of the ranch and it's wildlife. Our narrator and guide was Mike Adams.
After viewing the slides, we all boarded an old bus (which was fully air-conditioned, no glass in the windows). For the next 1 ½ hours we toured the ranch aboard the bus. We saw lots of bulls and other cows with calves, along with other birds native to the area. We had hoped to see some other wildlife, but never ran across any during our time there. We all had such an enjoyable day! It was wonderful.
Adams Ranch began to take shape in South Florida in 1937. The ranch has been in continuous operation for 70 years. From that beginning, it has developed into one of the largest cow/calf ranching operations in the U.S. In the process of developing the ranch, their land management and conservation practices have been nationally recognized as being beneficial to Florida's native wildlife and plants.
After our tour, we all meet again at Jan's Place on Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce for lunch.
Thank you Bonnie and the Pizazzy Pineapples for letting us share this experience with you. Also many thanks to Mike Adams and his family for allowing us this opportunity.
