Jazz week was kicked off with a Fantastic parade held on Saturday February 2, 2008 in Historical downtown Ft. Pierce. The day was perfect!
Rosa Capella Red Hat Chapter arrived to the parade riding on a beautiful float covered with red and purple. The Rosa Capellas were enthusiastic as they greeted the crowd and wished everyone "Happy Mardi Gras." On the back of a shiny black convertible was a huge Red Hat trimmed with a big Purple bow!
The Red Hat Tomatoes had Red and Purple banners hung from the sides of Queen Mum Dorothy Puntino's Toyota pick-up. Queen Dorothy walked along side handing out beads and stuffed toys to children. Four Red Hat Tomatoes rode in Charlotte McIntosh's School Bus Yellow BMW convertible. The Tomatoes threw beads and stuffed toys as they yelled "Happy Mardi Gras!"
As the parade wound its way to the Ft. Pierce marina, Jazz music could be heard for blocks! The smell of BBQ, cotton candy and spices hung in the air to tempt everyone's taste buds! Vendors sold masks, hats and Mardi Gras trinkets. Face painters turned timid children into lions, tigers, Batman and butterflies.
Ellen Morrone and Dorothy Puntino worked as volunteers for the Jazz Society until 10 pm. As the tired and happy Hatters left the marina,Jazz music played reminding them to dream of Mardi Gras 2009 in Ft. Pierce.
