Click It or Ticket a success in Fort Pierce
Contributed by: Audria V. Moore on 6/6/2008

FORT PIERCE - Fort Pierce Police officers worked hard to ensure that motorists drove safer during the annual Click It or Ticket campaign to raise awareness about seatbelt safety.

Fort PIerce Police officers wrote 872 tickets during the two-week enforcement wave, which began May 19 and ended June 1. Of the total tickets written in 2008, 366 tickets were written for no safety belt. Last year, officers wrote 882 total citations and 323 were for no safety belt.

"We are proud to support the Click It or Ticket campaign, because it helps us to achieve our mission of protecting the community we serve," said Chief R. Sean Baldwin. "Given the number of safety belt and child restraint citations we issued over the last few weeks, it's apparent that too many drivers still don't get it - seat belts save lives."

In 2007 and again this year, Officer Scott Ceckanowicz and Officer Joshua Buday wrote the highest number of citations. Office Ceckanowicz wrote 213 citations and Officer Buday wrote 175 citations. The officers will be recognized at the department's upcoming awards ceremony for their achievements.

The department wide results from the 2008 Click It or Ticket Campaign were:

9 - DUI Arrests

336 - Seatbelt Tickets

21 - Child Restraint Tickets

7 - Stolen Vehicles Recovered

36 - Fugitives Apprehended

7 - Reckless Driving Arrests

172 - Speeding Tickets

51 - Felony Arrests

75 - DWLS Arrests/Citations

128 - Uninsured Motorists Citations

Chief Baldwin said, "Hopefully this enforcement wave will remind drivers to buckle up and drive like their lives depend on it."
