Local Urgent Care Recognized For Saving Little Boy
Contributed by: Tara Ricks Yates & Associates on 7/1/2009

FORT PIERCE, Florida/July 1, 2009 - Kenneth Palestrant, MD, has recognized members of his staff for their quick action that is being credited with saving the life of a four year old boy who had been hit by a truck on a residential street behind Physicians Immediate Care's Southwestern Port St. Lucie office. "Members of our staff heard a commotion behind our office and found the little boy lying in the street near his parent's home," said Dr. Palestrant. When first noticed, the young boy had stopped breathing and had obvious traumatic injuries. "Two of our medical assistants and the physician on duty rushed to the boy's side where they literally performed life saving maneuvers," added Dr. Palestrant.

While the two medical assistants and physician worked to save the boy's life, another medical assistant realized none of the adults in the crowd that had gathered near the boy had called 911. "Our medical assistant dialed 911 while our team opened the boy's airway and kept him alive until rescue crews could arrive. They saved his life," said Dr. Palestrant.

If it wasn't for the quick reaction of the staff at Physicians Immediate Care the 4 year old boy would have died. The doctor adds this important life-saving reminder, "What keeps people alive is getting immediate care. That's why calling 911 is vital." Due to the severe trauma experienced in the accident, the boy was airlifted by helicopter to St. Mary's TraumaCenter in West Palm Beach.

The staff members responsible for saving the boy's life were awarded plaques noting their quick reaction to someone needing life-saving assistance. "I'm so glad the little boy made it and is alive today thanks to people who care and know they are making a difference in the communities we serve," concluded Dr. Palestrant.
