Contributed by: Erick Gill on 3/8/2007

Learn about "Water in the Urban Environment" during St Lucie County's Annual Ag Tour!

On Friday, April 20, 2007, the St. Lucie County Agricultural Extension Advisory Council presents their Annual St. Lucie County Ag Tour. Collaborating agencies include USDA, University of Florida Indian River Research & Education Center, South Florida Water Management District, and the St Lucie West Services District. Our theme is "Water in the Urban Environment." We invite you to experience this exciting and educational event as we tour locations which highlight one of St. Lucie County's most precious resources: Water.

Our tour begins bright and early at 7:30 a.m. at the USDA Horticulture Research Station located at 2001 S. Rock Road in Fort Pierce. Enjoy coffee, juice, and pastries while you observe informative presentations and displays on water-related topics that are important to our community. Our scheduled stops include the Ten-Mile Creek Water Attenuation Area where participants will learn about efforts to store and clean water and the St. Lucie West Services District where participants will learn about efforts to maintain the community's water supply and storm water retention ponds.

2007 Ag Tour "Water in the Urban Environment" will be conducted on Friday, April 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will begin at the USDA Horticulture Research Station, 2001 S. Rock Road, Fort Pierce. USDA will be conducting their open house until 3 p.m. There is no cost for the Tour. Transportation and lunch will be provided thanks to our many sponsors. Casual attire is recommended, as we will be outdoors a large portion of the tour. Space is limited to the first 100 who register by calling Wendi at (772) 462-1660 before April 6. Extension programs are open to all persons without regard to race, color, sex, age, disability, religion, or national origin. Participants with disabilities are asked to indicate any necessary accommodations when registering.

Thank you for helping us get the word out to our community about Ag Tour. Members of the media are encouraged to participate.
