FORT PIERCE - He was one of the first local leaders to tout the importance of "going green," and now St. Lucie County Commission Chairman Joe Smith is leading by example by parking his car and taking the bus.

On Thursday, Aug. 28, Commissioner Smith will be embarking on a day-long bus trip through St. Lucie County. It will begin when he catches the bus outside of his home in Fort Pierce and travels south to the County Annex Building on Walton Road, where he'll hold office hours in the Veterans Services Conference Room from 10 a.m. - noon.

Commissioner Smith will then hop on the bus again and head south to meet Martin County Commission Chairman Doug Smith for lunch in Jensen Beach. Commissioner Smith will be returning to his home in Fort Pierce by bus.
