FENN CENTER ANNOUNCES FALL YOUTH PROGRAMS

FORT PIERCE - St. Lucie County's Parks and Recreation Department announces a number of diverse youth programs at the Havert L. Fenn Center this fall.

Toddler Programs

· Creative Movement - Wednesdays from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Cost: $40 a month. Children ages 3-5 years can experience ballet, tap, tumbling all at once through dance and music with instructor Donna Stranford. Classes are underway now.

· Kinderdance - Wednesdays from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Cost: $48 a month. Designed for ages 3-5, this developmental dance, movement and fitness program will be taught on three levels by certified instructor Mona Bates, starting Oct. 7.

· Kindertots - Wednesdays from 9 - 9:30 a.m. Cost: $38 a month. Designed for 2 year olds, certified instructor Mona Bates will help toddlers develop motor skills and body awareness, while learning numbers, colors, shapes and more, starting Oct. 7.

· On the Grow and Signs, Say & Play - Mondays at various times. Cost: $30 per four-week session. Parent and child must both attend and interact in each session. Baby Signs instructor Marion Ross offers three different four-week sessions for children (18 months to 5 years old) and parents to lean sign language through songs, games and other activities.

o Session 1: Ages 18 months - 24 months - Mondays from 9:30 -10:15 a.m.

o Session 2: Ages 18 months - 36 months - Mondays from 10:30 -11:15 a.m.

o Session 3: Ages 3 - 5 years - Mondays from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

School-Age Programs

· After-School Adventures - Mondays through Fridays from 2:30 - 6 p.m. Early dismissal days will be from noon - 6 p.m. Cost: $30 per week. Children ages 5-12 will participate in structured activities including Power Hour (homework assistance), Sports Scene and Chill Out with Snacks, starting Oct. 5. Transportation is not available at this time. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. The program will not be available on school holidays.

· Kid's Day Out of School - Sept. 28, Oct. 30, Jan. 22 and Feb. 15 from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Cost: $25 per child. Designed for ages 5-11, this program provides activities such as sports, crafts and games, while school is out of session. Snacks and lunch is provided. Pre-registration is required.

· Ballet for Beginners - Thursdays from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Cost: $40 a month. Instructor Donna Stranford will teach children (ages 5-11) the basis for all dance: ballet. Classes are underway now.

· Ballroom Dance with a Little More Swing - Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Cost: $70 for two-month program. Instructor Kaitlyn Garman will teach children (ages 11-15) the waltz and swing in this upbeat and exciting program. Classes are underway now.

· Beginning Tap Dance - Thursdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Cost: $40 a month. Instructor Donna Stranford will students (ages 5-11) the elements of tap dance, including the vocabulary, musical rhythm, timing and phrasing. Classes are underway now.

· Etiquette/Modeling Class - Mondays from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Cost: $45 a month. Instructor Lizette Santiago will teach children (ages 8 and up) positive communication techniques, table etiquette, manners, self-esteem and more, starting Oct. 5.

· Fencing for Youth - Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Cost: $72 per eight-week session. Instructor Ken Moran will teach the basic understanding of competitive fencing to ages 12-17. Designed for those new to fencing, students will eventually be trained to participate in classroom bouts. All equipment is provided. Classes are underway now.

· Judo for Kids - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 7:15 p.m. Cost: $35 a month. Uniforms are not included in the program fee, but can be purchased from the instructor for $35. Combining throwing techniques with grappling, wrestling and submissions, instructor Cy "CJ" Jenkins will teach judo to boys and girls ages 6-16. Classes are underway now.

· Young Rembrandt's Art Class For Kids - Thursdays from 5 - 6 p.m. Cost: $35 a month and $10 monthly for materials. Instructor Deborah Johnson teaches students (ages 8 and up) a very classical approach to drawing and painting, starting Oct. 8. Students will take home weekly projects.

· Kid's Karate Classes - Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Cost: $45 a month. Uniforms are not included in the program fee, but can be purchased from the instructor. Instructor Kaitlyn Garman will help students (ages 4-15) build self-esteem, control their emotions and increase balance and coordination, starting Oct. 5.
