Local Business Leaders Invest in Future Economic Success by Developing Mentoring Recognition Program
On April 1, 2009 ,the St. Lucie Chamber of Commerce's Education Division will launch the new Lifetime Playbook, an innovative recognition program designed to invest in area youth by "keeping score" for businesses who are actively involved in mentoring. Volunteer hours will be tracked through the Chamber, and businesses with the highest involvement will receive recognition on an annual basis. Several area businesses have already committed to participating in this recognition program, including Torrey Pines Institute of Molecular Studies, RBC Bank, Spherion Staffing Services and Culpepper & Terpening.
Lifetime Playbook service partners include: Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, FAU Student Executives, IRSC Take Stock in Children, St. Lucie County School District Career and Technical students, Young Professionals Committee of the Chamber, Past President's Council of the Chamber and the Chamber Trustees' Council.
René Arteaga, Central East Florida Regional Manager for RBC Bank, serves as chairman of the Lifetime Playbook Committee along with Vice-Chair Pam Houghten, Director of Educational Outreach Programs at Torrey Pines Institute of Molecular Studies. "In light of our current economic situation, it is very important for business leaders to realize that area youth need our support now to successfully lead us into the future," said Arteaga. "We are not reinventing the wheel with this program. We have simply developed a tracking system to reward businesses for the work they already do with these great local organizations- and hopefully this will encourage future, expanded involvement."
Participation in Lifetime Playbook is free. "We are creating some friendly competition for a good cause- using time, not dollars." said Linda Cox, St. Lucie Chamber of Commerce President/CEO. If you are interested in the Lifetime Playbook, contact Linda Cox at 772-340-1333 or email her at Lcox@stluciechamber.org.
