Letter Carriers to Collect Food Donations on Saturday, May 10 thYou can help your hungry neighbors with a trip to your mailbox.
On Saturday, May 10, 2008, letter carriers and the Treasure Coast Food Bank will be collecting donated food as part of the "Stamp Out Hunger" National Food Drive.
On the day before Mother's Day, letter carriers and the Treasure Coast Food Bank will focus their efforts on restocking the community pantries and feeding programs that provide assistance to thousands of Treasure Coast families throughout the summer.
This donated food will help during the summer months at a critical time when school breakfast and lunch programs are not available.
It's easy to help, just leave a bag of non-perishable food items at you mailbox for your letter carrier on Saturday, May 10th 2008.
The foods most needed are:
Canned meats
Canned vegetables
Canned chunky soup
Canned spaghetti sauce
Canned chili
Hamburger Helper
Peanut Butter (in plastic containers)
Jelly (in plastic containers)
** Please, no glass jars for the safety of our letter carriers and volunteers **
In its 16th year, the food drive is part of the National Association of Letter Carriers' annual "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive which will take place in every U.S. state and jurisdiction. It is the largest one-day food collection in the nation aimed at combating hunger in America.
The Treasure Coast Food Bank is still looking for Food Drive sponsors and volunteers. If you would like to help, please call the Treasure Coast Food Bank at (772) 489-5676.
