PORT ST. LUCIE - The Morningside Branch Library will host genealogist Patti Kirk as she presents "Black Roots: An Introduction to African American Genealogy" on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
This introductory class is for anyone interested in doing African American genealogical research. Kirk will explain how the Civil War made available previously undisclosed documents, and how many of these records are still available today to uncover your ancestors' tax records, secret marriages and purchases of freedom.
A historian, genealogist, lecturer, teacher and syndicated columnist of genealogical studies, Kirk is the creator of the Family
History Genealogical Research Group covering Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Brevard counties. The group offers history lectures to the public as well as genealogy classes.
