Flag Disposal Ceremony June 20
"United States Federal Law provides that 'The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.' (36 U.S.C. 176(k))
There is a respectful way to dispose of old, worn, American Flags. Don't throw them a way; drop them off at The First Presbyterian Church of Port St. Lucie where they will be properly prepared for retirement by American Legion Post 40 or Boy Scout Troup 422. Flags can be brought to the church all year long any weekday between 9:30am-noon. First Presbyterian Church of Port St. Lucie is located at 2240 S.E. Walton Road in Port St. Lucie.
The American Legion Post 40 will perform an official Flag Disposal Ceremony on June 20 at 10:00am. The Post is located at 810 U. S Highway One in Port St Lucie and the public is invited. The Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags has been an integral part of American Legion ritual since 1937. For more information call 772-335-8900.
