Katharine Caplinger receives Girl Scout Gold Award

Katharine Caplinger from Troop 40718, Aquila Service Unit recieved her Gold Award on May 2, 2009 at the Eissey Campus Theater at Palm Beach Community College. This is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can recieve by using her passions to forfill a need in the community. She is a Senior at Lincoln Park Academy in the International Baccalaureate Program. Katie plans to attend Florida Atlantic Honors University on a full scholarship. Katharine is an avid reader and wanted to share her love of reading with her community. She helped at her local library as an after school tutor. She also coordinated a book drive and donated over 200 books to the Hibiscus House childrens library. Katharine also reached out to the Spanish community through the local Catholic Charities and took English books and translated them in Spanish on CD's so they could enjoy the books as well. Katie is a true leader and has inspired many children to learn to read.
