Family Campout!

FT. PIERCE, Fla - Many of us grew up loving camping!Yet so many grow up never knowing what it is like! The "Family Campout" at the Savannas Recreation Area in Fort Pierce on Sat, Nov. 11 and Sun, Nov. 12 can change that! Whether you are bringing back great memories or fulfilling a childhood dream, its right in your own back yard!

This will be two days of fun including fishing, volleyball, Indian arts and crafts, traditional tribal games, an outdoor movie, hiking, kayaking, a treasure hunt and more. Covering 550 acres and five distinct biological communities, the Savannas provides access to pine flatwoods, wet prairie, marsh, lake and scrub all in a single glance.

Admission is $30 per family and includes all activities. Camping will be limited to tents (travel trailers and RVs are prohibited). County staff will set up fire rings, but small grills are recommended for cooking (no personal fires are allowed). Breakfast and lunch on Sunday is included in the price.

Registration and pre-payment is required as the number of campsites is limited to 25 families. Once registration is complete, staff will provide participants a list of recommending camping supplies. No refunds will be allowed, and county staff is working on scheduling a rain date.

This quality program is offered by The St. Lucie County Parks & Recreation Department and the Florida Indian Hobbyist Association. The Savannas Recreation Area is located at 1400 Midway Road, Fort Pierce. For more information call the Parks and Recreation Department at 772-462-1792 or 772-464-7855 or visit www.stlucieco.gov.
