FORT PIERCE - Enjoy a hot cup of coffee and learn more about St. Lucie County's natural areas by attending "Coffee with the Ranger" on the first Thursday of each month at the Savannas Recreation Area on Midway Road.
This new program, which kicks off Thursday, Feb. 1, is designed to help educate campers and local residents on a variety of topics related to wildlife, history and the local environment, while enjoying coffee and a continental breakfast. Held on Palm Island under the newly constructed group pavilion, these free events take place on the first Thursday of the month from 9 - 10:30 a.m., and are open to everyone.
Located at 1400 E. Midway Road in Fort Pierce, the Savannas is a 550-acre site featuring five distinct biological communities including wet prairies, pine flatwoods, scrub areas and more. Operated by the St. Lucie County Parks & Recreation Department, the park is open seven days a week for overnight camping, RVs, hiking, fishing, bird watching and kayak/canoe rentals.
