Saltwater Teen Angler of the Year is -------------
Contributed by: Cammie Ward on 5/7/2007

May 6, 2007

Today was the fish off for the Saltwater Teen Angler of the Year. The morning started out much like any summer morning would -- nice calm water, no breeze and plenty of no seeum's. The Teen's meet at Jaycee Park at 6:30am and drew names to see which volunteer they would fish with. After the draw they loaded their bait and fishing gear on the boats, reviewed the fish list and off they went. The fish list for this inshore tournament consisted of black drum, mangrove snapper, redfish, sheepshead, snook and trout.

As the boat arrived back at the dock each angler had a story to tell. The first boat back was Capt. Charlie Conner with anglers Tyler Serio and David Brashear. Tyler had the biggest trout of the tournament and Capt. Charlie told about the huge snook that broke David off. The second boat back was Capt. Joe Ward with angler Jacob York and he brought back two mangrove snapper. The next boat back was Flip Gates with anglers Jordan Martinez and Vincent Serio. Jordan had a nice black drum and a trout. Vincent had two very nice size black drum. The next group back was Capt. Al Bernetti with anglers R.J. Swinford and Jason Horn. R.J. had a nice black drum and a mangrove snapper. Jason had a good size sheepshead and a mangrove snapper. Teen Angler volunteer Bob Bergen was next to come in with angler Dillon Roberts-Louria. Dillon also had a nice trout. The last boat to return was the brother and sister fishing team of Kassidy and Kalib Guettler along with their Dad. They didn't catch any fish that were on the list but they did catch a few spanish mackerel and Kassidy caught a good sized bluefish. No redfish or snook were brought back to weigh-in.

After adding up all the points for the school year I am proud to announce that JORDAN MARTINEZ is the Saltwater Teen Angler of the Year for the 2006 - 2007 season!! After fishing today Jordan had a total of 195 points. In second place with 165 points is R.J. Swinford. And, in third place with 135 points is Kalib Guettler. All three of these Teen Anglers attend Westwood High School.

I would like to thank all our boat volunteers that have helped during the school year -- Capt. Al Bernetti, Capt. Charlie Conner, Capt. Joe Ward, Bob Bergen, Bob Wittbold, Bill Hood, Wayne Wilson, Chad Painter, Tony Brown, Capt. Rob Ward, Flip Gates, Jim Passerilli, and the Dad's and Uncle's that took time out of their busy schedules to take these Teen Anglers fishing.

Our end of the year banquet is scheduled for Saturday, September 22 at the Pelican Yacht Club. We will e-mail you more details at a later date.

Enjoy your summer and make sure you find time to go fishing.
