Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Fishing Report

INSHORE - Most of the inshore action this week has been from trout. The best bite has been from first light until about 8am and just before dark. Try the docks along Indian River Drive for the best action. Top water baits in the brighter colors are working the best. I have been getting reports on redfish this week. Most of the fish have been over the slot and have been coming from Ft. Pierce Inlet and a live bait has been the best. Along with all of the redfish there is a lot of catch and release snook in the Inlet. Same thing as the reds -- a live bait fished on the bottom. The snapper bite remains steady for anglers putting in their time. The channel edges and around the bridges have been the best places to fish. Mojarra's have been the bet baits to use.

OFFSHORE - There is still a lot of kingfish, bonita and sharks just about anywhere from 30 to 70 feet of water and they have been taking live baits but, they will take a ballyhoo. Still a lot of reports of sailfish free jumping or taking ballyhoo and 100 feet seems to be the number. Reports have been from both north and south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The few dolphin I have heard about this week came from depths of 350 to 600 feet of water and not many fish were caught making for a very long ride. I did have several reports of nice size cobia being caught on the buoys. Most were caught on a live bait. The bottom fishing is still on the slow side due to the cooler water temps. Lobster season is off to a great start with all the boats at the Dockside Inn getting their limits.

BRAGGING BOARD - I got an e-mail and picture from Lindsay Pashkow about the trip she and her sister too offshore with their mom and dad. Lindsay and her sister -- Brittany each caught a cobia 35 & 45 pounds. They were fishing just off from 12-A Buoy and using sardines. Their mom -- Karen caught and released an 8 foot sailfish while fishing near 10-A Buoy. Their dad -- Greg lead the group to their catches and they also caught 7 kingfish and released 4. They were caught on greenies. Lindsay said they had a great family day of fishing. Don Tatum from Georgia stopped by on Tuesday and told me about the 46 pound cobia he caught on Monday out by 12-A Buoy. He was using a live bait and this was his first cobia.
