Results of Junior Teen Anglers Fishing Tournament
Contributed by: Cammie Ward on 10/4/2009

OCTOBER 3, 2009

What a nice morning we had for our Junior Teen Anglers from shore fishing tournament. The weather was perfect -- nice and cool, a slight breeze -- what could be better.

We had a total of 24 Junior's fishing today. We welcomed 2 new Juniors today -- Jessica Eastland and Kalani Walk -- Trevor's little sister. With 24 kids fishing today the poor fish didn't stand a chance. We had a total of 58 fish caught and released! I think this was a new record. We had 4 flounder, 1 grouper, 1 ladyfish, 4 puffer fish, 1 needle fish, 1 sandperch, 1 stingray,1 porgy, 1 jack, 1 spot, 3 rockfish and 39 snapper!! All of the fish were released.

The Juniors started fishing at 9am and by 9:30 we still didn't have a fish to weigh. When the tide started moving the fish started biting. There was a steady line of Juniors bringing their fish to be weighed. The brother and sister teams -- Laine & Leah Pruitt and Thomas & Taylor Roop keep coming back and coming back with more fish. Dylan Brewer has been fishing with us for 2 years and caught his first fish today -- a flounder and he also caught a snapper. Michael Rochedieu and Ashton Smith bothcaught their first fish today -- Michael had a puffer and Ashton had a nice size ladyfish. The two biggest fish of the tournament were a 2lb. 2oz. sandperch caught by Andrew Evans and a 9lb. 8oz. stingray caught by Robert Kinchen.

Our next from shore fishing tournament is scheduled for Saturday - December 5th at 9am.

A special THANK YOU to Tammy Ward for weighing the fish. Also, to the Teen Anglers that went over and helped bag oyster shells for the reef restoration program.
