ORT PIERCE - The Savannas Recreation Area off Midway Road is offering camping without the work with the new "Rent-A-Tent" option.

Campers can now enjoy the great outdoors without having the hassle of setting up camp. St. Lucie County's Parks and Recreation staff will set up the campsite, all you do is show up. The package includes: a tent with porch (sleeps a maximum of six), two folding chairs, one queen-size air mattress, one lantern, one small five-piece cooking set, one cooler, one picnic table and a fire ring.

Campers must bring only their own food, clothes, linens (sheets, sleeping bags, and towels), charcoal and dishes (paper plates etc.).

The cost to participate in the "Rent-A-Tent" program is $35 a night without electric hookup and $45 with electric. A $50 refundable deposit is required. There is a two-night minimum and reservations must be made three days in advance. No camper can stay more than 14 days at one time.

Located at 1400 E. Midway Road in Fort Pierce, the Savannas Recreation Area is a 550-acre park open seven days a week from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. for overnight camping, RVs, hiking, fishing, bird watching and kayak/canoe rentals.
