PORT ST. LUCIE - Learn how to find your way out of the woods at the Oxbow Eco-Center's Nature for Families program on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. as the Oxbow staff teaches you some simple ways to orient yourself in the wilderness using a compass and landmarks.
This Nature for Families event is appropriate for ages 8 and up. Reservations are required and the cost is $3 per participant. Tickets can be purchased with Visa or MasterCard by phone or in person at the Oxbow Eco-Center, 5400 N.E. St. James Drive, Port St. Lucie. Additionally don't miss the Oxbow's bi-weekly programs: Swamp Tales (a free storytime for ages 2 - 6) held on the first and third Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and Critter Chat (a meet-and-greet event with the Oxbow's animals for all ages) held on the second and fourth Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
Spots are still available for the Oxbow's monthly guided kayak tour of the North Fork of the St. Lucie River on Saturday, Sept. 19, running from 9 a.m. - noon. Paddlers will launch from White City Park and cruise down the river to the backside of the Oxbow property, possibly passing turtles, wading birds and even alligators. The cost is $15 per person. Children 5-7 are free. Pre-registration is required.
