It has been quite an exciting season for Legacy Dance Team. A lot of new All-star dancers from PSL & Ft. Pierce were added to the established squad this year amongst the seasoned veterans. All of the dancers had a long road ahead of them to rebuild the new 07/08 team and rise to the level of excellence that Legacy is known for. With hard work, dedication, discipline and commitment, Legacy dancers still maintain their reputation as exceptional entertainers and competitors in the dance world.
"The squad dynamic was different this year since we had more beginner and younger dancers than we have had in the past. The rookies out numbered the veterans, usually it is the other way around" states director Dawn Nabors. Regardless if the dancer was a rookie or a veteran, the team worked hard and it shows. Legacy placed first at Regional and State competitions this year as well as ranking third at Nationals. "I am so proud of all the dancers for pushing themselves to their next level, they have come a long way. The rookie dancers are no longer rookies, all of the dancers are superior entertainers and competitors" said Nabors.
Legacy has been keeping busy during the season with practices, performances, community service and competitions. It takes a special kind of strong person to do all of what we do. Once a dancer, always a dancer. It is in your blood! The sport of dance can be difficult and demanding at times, but it is also exciting and rewarding. Dancers are not just artists, they are athletes and entertainers as well. One of the most rewarding things Legacy dancers enjoy the most, is performing for the community. It is all about the smiles! Smiles on the faces in the audience of young and old that watch and cheer as the dancers perform, and the smiles on the dancers faces as they do what they love...entertain and make people happy! Legacy's seasonal community performances include: The PSL Fall Festival, The Pineapple Festival, The PSL Treelighting Festival, The PSL Festival of Lights, The PSL Art & Jazz Festival, South Florida Fair's Starz of the Future, Primetime for the Miami Heat, and special guest performers at Dance Forte's Spring Showcase where director Dawn Nabors is also an instructor in Lake Worth where she lives.
This year Legacy participated in two special community performances which meant a lot to the team; A performance and workshop for the Boys & Girls Club and a benefit performance for our dear friend Sensei Tommie Bogolawski. The benefit was to help raise funds to help off set the medical costs to battle liver cancer. In 2005 Sensei Tom, owner of Kaizen Leadership Karate in Port St. Lucie gave Legacy Dance Team a home at his facility where Dawn Nabors could operate her program. Kaizen and Legacy have done many community shows and performances together over the past three years including Primetime for the Miami Heat. Nabors states "We make a great team! I appreciate the technique, form and discipline associated with Karate, it is very similar to dance. Being around Kaizen inspired me to choreograph a routine in 2006 in which we danced with nun chucks. Of course Sensei taught us how to use them! Our alumni dancers came back from college to perform that special routine along with our veteran dancers especially for Sensei at his benefit". Sadly Sensei lost his battle with liver cancer in late April but his spirit and teachings will live on in his Karate students, in Legacy, and in everyone who knew him.
Legacy is preparing for their final performance of the season. Their end of the season blow out Party/Showcase will be held on June 1st at the PSL Community Center where the team will celebrate with friends, family and sponsors. This year's theme is Kickin' It Old School- 80's & 90's. The event will include dinner, D.J., dancing , games, raffles, prizes, live entertainment by the Legacy dancers of course, sponsor appreciation and award ceremony. This is our fun way to end another amazing season!
Legacy will be holding two auditions for their upcoming 2008/09 new season. We are looking for high energy female & male dancers that love to perform & compete. Dance experience is a plus but not required. You will be taught a Legacy dance combination that you will be performing for your audition. We are looking for personality, showmanship, how well you can pick up our choreography, and potential. There is no need to bring an audition dance piece with you unless you would like to perform something to showcase your talent as a bonus but not necessary.
